Inter-Med Handysize rates going down the drain
With extremely low demand from both grain and non-grain charterers, Handysize owners are forced to accept huge rate cuts in order to get their vessels fixed. Meanwhile, the local Supramax/Ultramax market is holding relatively stable. Charterers already target mere $7-7.5k daily for 32-34k dwt vessels bss APS dely CVB redel Med, which corresponds to just $5-5.5k daily bss dely passing Canakkale. Rates for shipment of 30,000 t of corn from POC to the Italian Adriatic are discussed at $22/t with 8000x/6000x l/d rates, which is equivalent to $7k daily bss dely psg Canakkale in case of $35-40k of EWRI; brokers already suggest $17-18/t for shipment of 30,000 t of wheat from CVB to EgyptMed.
